Self Acceptance

Excerpt:

“Disability justice allowed me to understand that me writing from my sickbed wasn’t me being weak

or uncool or not a real writer but a time-honored crip creative practice. And that understanding allowed

me to finally write from a disabled space, for and about sick and disabled people.”

(Piepzna-Samarasinha, 2018)

Commentary:

I think the world needs more individuals who will freely breach social boundaries and express

themselves, like Lakshmi. When they think no one else can relate to their experiences and struggles,

disabled QTBIPOC must feel incredibly alone. Lakshmi's brave spirit has the ability to bring togethe

r the disabled QTBIPOC communities and provide them a voice and a means of expression. Because

disabled QTBIPOC are just as intentional and alive as everyone else, it is not their obligation to

carefully avoid societal conventions.
